Building community and advancing the field
The real power in this field comes from the natural instinct of people to connect and to share – their stories, favorite tools, successes and challenges.
With funding from
The California Endowment, the Your Voice initiative will help people in the field of cross cultural health care
network, collaborate, offer support, and learn from each other using Web 2.0 and virtual learning tools.
The project will focus on three activities:
- Peer Learning Communities will offer small- and medium-size groups of professional colleagues the opportunity to ‘meet’ regularly using virtual learning platforms and listservs to discuss common practice challenges and share information about strategies and resources.
- A virtual learning agenda will feature a program of webinars and online mini-conferences that will be made available to a wide audience.
- Updates to the DiversityRx website will allow users to interact with each other professionally, contribute content related to the organizations and resources they are involved with, and use the site as a gateway to information on other websites.

This new program builds on a foundation of activities from the 2008 conference. Over 200 people participated in the
Your Voice: What Matters, What’s Next series of moderated conversation and ‘graffiti’ sessions. More than 250 have filled out a
survey that explores some Big Questions and how people use the internet to stay informed about the issues. Conference attendees also participated in networking lunches designed to connect people by geographic and professional interest areas.
