The Seventh National Conference on

QUALITY HEALTH CARE FOR

CULTURALLY DIVERSE POPULATIONS

October 18 - 21, 2010 -- Baltimore, MD

www.DiversityRxConference.org

The Quality Health Care for Culturally Diverse Populations conference, held biennially since 1998, is one of the most respected and well-supported meetings on improving health service delivery to minority, immigrant, and indigenous populations, and focuses on how to enhance the cultural responsiveness of health care organizations to reduce health inequalities. Co-produced by the Drexel University Center for Health Equality, Resources for Cross Cultural Health Care, and the US DHHS Office of Minority Health, this meeting attracts over 600 attendees from North America and around the world. It features over 100 presentations during pre-conference workshops, plenary panels, roundtable sessions, and concurrent workshops, and includes a film festival and a resource center with exhibits and poster presentations.

It is a privilege to hold the 2010 conference in the city of Baltimore.   As home to world-class health delivery and research institutions, and neighbor to Federal agencies and leading health care organizations in the nation’s capital, Baltimore is an ideal location to hear from and raise awareness among key health care stakeholders.  The State of Maryland supports many community-based and policy initiatives aimed at improving health care for its very diverse population.a region with a long tradition of welcoming refugees and immigrants, and home to many innovative programs and policies for delivering healthcare in culturally and linguistically appropriate ways.

The Seventh National Conference will highlight major policy initiatives and their implications for improving care for diverse patients and communities, while continuing to feature sessions on tested and emerging strategies that will appeal to “seasoned” veterans and others interested in the practical application of findings and initiatives.  Among the emerging policy initiatives we will address:

  • The implications of health care reform for diverse populations,
  • How to implement new standards on culturally and linguistically appropriate services from The Joint Commission and the National Committee for Quality Assurance,
  • How health care organizations can respond to health IT and demographic data collection recommendations from the Institute of Medicine and federal health agencies, and
  • Integrating consumer, patient, family, and community perspectives into these initiatives, and the demand for increased accountability, effectiveness, and transparency.

Registration for the conference will be open in April 2010.  If you would like a printed registration brochure, email us at conference@diversityrx.org or call 512.279.3917.
